Captain William Prowse, born 1752, joined the Royal Navy as an Able Seaman and retired as a Rear-Admiral. He died in 1826. Saw service in many Ships and many Battles including: The Battle of Grenada, The Battle of Martinique, the Glorious First of June, The Battle of Cape Vincent, The Battle Cape Finistere and the Battle of Trafalgar whilst under Captain Prowse's command.

H.M.S. Sirius was a 36 gun Frigate launched in 1797 and saw service mostly blockading Napoleonic Europe. In 1802 Captain Prowse took command that lasted until 1806 and included the engagement at Trafalgar. H.M.S. Sirius was lost in 1810 when her crew scuttled her during the Battle of Grand Port in the Indian Ocean, one of the very few Naval Battles the French won during the Napoleonic Wars.
